As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

PUBLICATION RULES

  1. The semiannual journal Studia Mazowieckie is a scholarly humanities and social sciences periodical published by the Ignacy Mościcki University of Applied Sciences in Ciechanów.
  2. Manuscripts are accepted in Polish or English and should be submitted electronically to: mazowieckie@pansim.edu.pl or via the Open Journal Systems (OJS) editorial panel.
    Submission deadlines:
    • Issue 1: by May 15 of the given year
    • Issue 2: by November 15 of the given year
  3. The editorial office does not charge authors any fees related to the acceptance or preparation of articles for publication.
  4. Authors must provide a complete manuscript version, including: an abstract in Polish and English (up to 900 characters including spaces), 3-5 keywords in Polish and English, tables and figures with sources, bibliography (including archival materials, printed sources, press, and studies, according to listed categories), affiliation, ORCID number, and contact details (email, phone).
  5. Article and study length: up to 40,000 characters with spaces (approx. 1 manuscript sheet).
  6. Manuscripts undergo an initial verification (internal review) by the editor-in-chief. Articles that do not meet editorial requirements, fall outside the journal’s scope, or are of insufficient scholarly quality are rejected at this stage.
  7. To facilitate the review process, articles should be prepared as follows:
    • Title page (with author information): must include article title, author’s name, affiliation, and correspondence address (phone, email).
    • Main text: must be anonymised, with no identifying information such as author name or affiliation.
  8. Articles are accepted for publication based on two positive reviews. Authors must respond to reviewers’ comments and submit a revised version to the Editorial Office. If one review is positive and one negative, a third reviewer (super-reviewer) appointed by the editor-in-chief will decide. Based on the third review (positive or negative), the article is accepted or rejected.
  9. Upon submission, the author must provide written declarations regarding: copyright ownership, familiarity with publication ethics, knowledge of Open Access policy, consent to personal data processing, authors’ contribution to the work, originality (not published or submitted elsewhere), absence of conflicts of interest, and confirmation that ghostwriting and guest authorship do not occur.
  10. Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word, using Times New Roman 12 pt font, margins of 2.5 cm, and 1.5 line spacing.
  11. Spaces: use one space between words; do not insert a space before punctuation marks (period, comma, etc.) or footnote references; do not insert a space after opening brackets or opening quotation marks; insert a space after abbreviations such as p. (page), vol. (volume), etc.
  12. Journal titles should be enclosed in quotation marks; book, chapter, and article titles should be italicised.
  13. Quotes up to two sentences long should be enclosed in quotation marks and set in regular font. Longer quotes should be set off from the text in Times New Roman 10 pt. Omissions in quotes are indicated by (…). Quotes within quotes are marked by French quotation marks « ».
  14. Lack of place or year of publication is indicated as n.p. (no place of publication), n.d (no date), n.p.d. (no place or year). For edited volumes, start with editors’ initials and surnames followed by “red.” in parentheses, then the title in italics, e.g.: Author Name, Article Title. Subtitle, translator if only of this article, in: Volume Title. Subtitle, Editor Name(s), translator(s) if for the whole volume, Publisher, Place, Year, pages.
  15. Dates: day as Arabic numeral, month spelled out, year abbreviated, e.g., 26 April 1929 r. (but: year 1929).
  16. Tables: content in Times New Roman 11 pt; table title above the table in Times New Roman 12 pt. Sources (archival, printed, studies) should be given below tables.
  17. Figures: caption below figure in Times New Roman 12 pt with source indicated.
  18. Tables and figures should be submitted in editable formats.
  19. Use spell-check and grammar-check features in text editors before submission to minimize errors.

Citation Style

  1. Use footnotes in Times New Roman 10 pt., single spacing. Footnote numbers in the text are superscript, placed before commas, semicolons, or periods ending sentences, and after exclamation and question marks.
  2. Separate bibliographic elements in footnotes with semicolons. Use the following abbreviations: vol. (volume), no. (number) – all lowercase.
  3. Use abbreviations in footnotes: et al., ed.., p., etc.
  4. Citing monographs:
    Footnotes: Initial(s) and surname of author, Subtitle, translator if any, Publisher, Place and year of publication, pages (omit pages if citing the whole work).
    Example: A. Weiner, Kompetencje muzyczne dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym, Wydawnictwo UMCS, Lublin 2010, p. 88.
    For repeated citations immediately following: Tamże, p. 89. For repeated citations separated in the text: A. Weiner, Kompetencje muzyczne…, p. 98.
