Długosiodło on the Trail of Independence Struggles: The Events of 1831 in the Light of Selected Sources

Abstract

The November Uprising became a part of the history of many
towns. Długosiodło was also on the battle trail. It was there that the Commander-
in-Chief’s staff was stationed, and several skirmishes took place in
the surrounding areas as part of the activities known as the Guard Expedition.
Many more and less famous Poles distinguished themselves in the
fights. Apart from the commanders of the uprising, other participants included
Maurycy Mochnacki, Tomasz Potocki, and Antoni Patek. The memory of the
clashes between the insurgents and the Russian army has survived in the local
community and is one of the elements of awakening historical awareness
and a sense of pride in the achievements of our ancestors.
